Service industry dilemma : go to a watering hole or coffee shop or bookstore and make googly eyes at some cutie that works there - say "hi", make the most intense googly eyes you can make, or drink my beverage, tip and be glad I didn't get bounced out for being creepy?



I'm just trying to figure out what's appropriate here - I'm sure every bartender, barista and waitperson in town has been the object of inappropriate come-ons and I don't want to be "that guy" (in the most non-gender specific application of "that guy" possible) - I'm just curious and interested.



So what's the best approach - Mind my own business? Be friendly and neutral until I'm sure there's a mutual thing? Be upfront and prepared for rejection?
